8th Annual Harvest Moon Concert
with Mike Pritchard & Mark Wallney
Friday September 8th

Click here to RSVP or for more info7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert

We have sold out of all guaranteed seats, which is the maximum we can accommodate if we are forced by the weather to have an indoor concert, but we want to hold our 8th Annual Harvest Moon concert outside under the full moon (weather permitting). So, we are taking PROVISIONAL RSVPs for additional seats. We expect good weather, but if the weather forces us inside, the Provisional seats will obviously not be available. So, PRAY FOR GOOD WEATHER! 🙂

Since these seats are Provisional, we will NOT be accepting payment in advance for these Provisional RSVPs. You will PAY AT THE DOOR the night of the concert.

Because this is an outdoor concert, PLEASE BRING LAWN CHAIRS if you have them. We will have some chairs available, but not enough for everyone.

If you have questions about these Provisional RSVPs, please use the Contact form at the right side of this page to submit your question. Be sure to include your phone number so we can contact you with our response.

It’s hard to believe this will be our 8th Annual Harvest Moon Concert! It marks an anniversary of sorts for Claire and Paul, as the first one was about the one-year mark from when we started dating. Who knew that all these years later, we would be married and still celebrating love and life with our friends every Harvest Moon?!

And, of course, it wouldn’t be the same without another outstanding performance by our dear friends Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, who got this whole thing started in the first place with their better-than-original performances of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, which they would always play with a dedication to Claire every time Claire and Paul went on a date anywhere Mike and Mark were playing. Their performance of this romantic and seasonally appropriate song sets the stage for a relaxing evening of undeniable musical and vocal talent.

So here we are at our 8th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon, the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert. And it marks the beginning of the change of seasons, reminding us of the passing of time, and how important it is to share our time with those we love. There are a lot of special things about this 8th Annual Harvest Moon concert. For one, this will be our second Harvest Moon concert since we’ve been married, and the second Harvest Moon concert in our new home. Considering that our very first Harvest Moon concert was a surprise party for Claire, it’s nice how things have come full circle.

Weather permitting, this year’s concert will be held outside under that beautiful full Harvest Moon. We will move inside if the weather won’t cooperate, in which case there will not be room for those holding Provisional RSVPs.

RSVP is required, but we are NOT accepting advance payment on these Provisional RSVPs. Please click the RSVP link and let us know you’ll be here.

7th Annual Harvest Moon Concert
Friday Sept 16th

It’s that time of year again!7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert

7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert
Our 7th Annual Harvest Moon house concert, featuring Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, will be Friday September 16th at 7:15pm.

The inspiration for this extra-special house concert is taken from Neil Young’s song “Harvest Moon”, which Mike and Mark perform better than ‘ol Neil himself. No disrespect to Neil Young, but let’s face it, Mike Pritchard’s voice is so much smoother and stronger than Neil’s warbly falsetto, and Mark Wallney’s guitar mastery is similarly superior. Their performance of this romantic and seasonally appropriate song sets the stage for a relaxing evening of undeniable musical and vocal talent.

This concert is our 7th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon, the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert. And it marks the beginning of the change of seasons, reminding us of the passing of time, and how important it is to share our time with those we love.

There are a lot of special things about this 7th Annual Harvest Moon concert. For one, this will be our FIRST concert in our new home, and it’s no longer Paul Johnson’s house, it’s now Paul and Claire’s house. Considering that our very first Harvest Moon concert was a surprise party for Claire, it’s nice how things have come full circle.

Another special thing about this 7th Annual Harvest Moon concert is that for the first time since our first concert, this year’s concert will be on the ACTUAL DATE of the OFFICIAL FULL HARVEST MOON! (it’s normally been one to four days before or after the actual full Harvest Moon.)

If that’s not enough, weather permitting, Paul and Claire’s house will allow us to hold this year’s concert outside under that beautiful full Harvest Moon. (we will take the first RSVPs assuming that the weather won’t cooperate, and then we will take overflow “rain check” RSVPs that will only be valid if we are able to hold the concert outdoors.)

There may be a few PROVISIONAL seats available, IF IT DOESN’T RAIN and we can hold the concert outside – CLICK THIS LINK for more concert details and to RSVP. (RSVP and advance payment are required, as this concert always sells out, so if seats are available, grab them quickly before they are gone!)  Provisional seats will be refunded in the event weather forces the concert inside.

We are looking forward to a particularly special Harvest Moon this year! See you then!

Sarah McQuaid
Friday October 23rd

Sarah McQuaidClick here for more information or to RSVP

International performer Sarah McQuaid makes a rare Lubbock appearance on Friday October 23rd in an intimate HubCityMusic.com house concert.  All the way from England, Sarah has found a broad audience in the United States, and is in the midst of a nationwide CD release tour, introducing her fourth solo CD.  Entitled “Walking into White”, this newest release is receiving rave reviews.  Here are a few samples of the response this CD is receiving:

“Luminous … a soft but forceful record whose urgency is sometimes masked by the music’s acoustic serenity.” —The Boston Globe

“The more we spin this one, the better it sounds.” —BabySue

“Jaw-droppingly beautiful … tender and gorgeous.” —Invisible Ink Music Blog

We are extremely fortunate and grateful that Sarah’s schedule makes this concert possible.

Sarah’s voice has been likened to malt whiskey, melted chocolate and “honey poured into wine”. Her new album Walking Into White (2015) is her most honest and adventurous work to date, with a depth and texture of soundscape that are reflected in her beautifully crafted live shows. A captivating performer, she seduces her audience with cheeky banter and stories from the road, as well as with stunning musicianship; in her hands, the guitar becomes much more than merely an accompanying instrument.

You won’t want to miss her unique vocals and accompanying guitar, as well as the sound magic that accompanying sound technician Martin Stansbury brings to the room.  It will be an amazing performance!

It’s finally here!

Our 6th Annual Harvest Moon house concert, featuring Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, will be Friday September 25th at 7:15pm.

This concert is our 6th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon, the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert. We are looking forward to another wonderful Harvest Moon!  See you then!

2nd annual West Texas Folk Festival
Thursday 10/7 – Saturday 10/9

2013WestTexasFolkFestiva-600x540

Tickets available at Ralph’s Records or at the door.

Van and Leslie Shaw are happy to again host the 2nd Annual West Texas Folk Festival, from November 7th through 9th, at their beautiful Uncle Bill’s Music Barn venue in far south Lubbock.  Located behind their residence at 150th and Louisville (one block west of Indiana), Uncle Bill’s Music Barn is in a peaceful and spacious country environment, with a comfortable, inviting interior that is laid out perfectly for musical performances such as this folk festival.

Hoping to eventually reach the status of more prominent folk festivals (such as the Kerrville Folk Festival), Van Shaw recognizes that every giant tree was once a sapling.  “We want to grow this event and make it self-sustaining” said Shaw, noting that last year’s debut event was satisfyingly successful for a first-year event.

One of the keys to that success is the expertise brought to the event by each night’s musical hosts, and Shaw has filled those slots with some well-known West Texas musicians who can not only draw an audience, but have the connections to bring in musicians who can keep that audience enthralled and entertained.  This year’s nightly musical hosts are Mark Wallney (Thursday), Curtis Peoples (Friday), and Jenni Dale Lord (Saturday).  And each of them has brought talented lineups to their respective nights’ performances.   “I just want everyone to have a good time and enjoy great music, in a comfortable environment,” said Shaw.   “I feel the best way to do that is to not micro-manage, and let it take on a life of its own.”

Washuntara – An Encore Performance!
Saturday February 23, 2013

Washuntara returned for an encore HubCityMusic.com house concert on Saturday February 23rd, and an appreciative audience fell in love with both his music and his message.

WashuntaraHaving written literally hundreds of songs, there was no lack of material to choose from, and Washuntara played a completely different set for this encore performance.  Remaining consistent, though, was his high energy and positive message.

This Australian has shared the stage with the likes of Paul McCartney, the Eagles, the Moody Blues, and many more.  Well-known in Australia and Europe, Washuntara is making a name for himself stateside as well, particularly for his song-writing ability.

His song “She’s Tough”, performed at this concert, is playing in the background.
(or if not, can be heard by clicking   at the upper-right of this page).

Here is what one of our guests had to say after Washuntara’s previous concert:
“Last night Jack, Dusti, Chad, and I attended the most amazing concert I’ve EVER seen!!  Washuntara performed a house concert at Paul Johnson’s that  completely blew me away. His message of peace, love, and kindness is SO powerful and it touched me so deeply I just have to share it with you guys! Go to his website at washuntara.com and listen to his music and message! You’ll be hooked, too! Peace and Love to All Ya’ll!”  – Marti Dillon

(watch a video below, from his previous concert)

Karla DavisUpdate 4/10/2012 – Karla performed LIVE on “The Voice” this Monday (4/9) and Tuesday (4/10).

We are looking forward to a return visit to Lubbock, TX by you and Gabby!

And a special message to Karla from all your fans in Lubbock – You did great, Karla!  Hope you took it all in and enjoyed it like you did when you performed your house concert here in Lubbock.  We love you and we’re proud of you, Karla!

Karla Davis, who hosted a HubCityMusic.com house concert here in Lubbock in August (see review near the bottom of this page), has made it past the blind auditions, and is officially on the show!  Appearing on the Blind Auditions episode that aired Monday 2/20, her rendition of “If I Die Young” turned coach Adam Levine’s chair from the first lines of the song.
Congratulations, Karla!
