Tori Vasquez
May 13, 2017

We are always so excited to host Tori Vasquez in a rare, intimate solo house concert! Most of you know Tori as the youngest daughter of Lubbock musicians Junior and Mickie Vasquez, and indeed Tori has made a name uniquely her own in the Lubbock music scene.

Having been pulled away from Lubbock by her burgeoning music career, Tori is now based out of Austin, with her husband Shannon Smith.  Although recently focusing on performing with their band The Battlin’ Nelsons, Tori is taking a one-time break from that format, instead choosing to come back to Lubbock to perform an intimate and rare solo house concert on Saturday May 13th, at Paul and Claire’s house.

Tori has chosen a set list that includes some old covers and originals that she hasn’t played in a long time, interspersed with some new songs you may not have heard her perform.

Join us for this rare opportunity to hear Tori solo in her home town, in an environment that is more close up and personal than any other.

SOLD OUT! Tori Vasquez
Nationwide Fall Tour Sendoff!
Saturday August 10, 2013

Tori VasquezSOLD OUT!  This was Tori’s only Lubbock concert in quite some time (before or after), and it was officially sold out 10 days prior to the concert date.

And Tori brought her “A” game with her!  Everyone who attended was treated to the very best Tori has to offer – the best of her amazing performance abilities, the best of her new songs, and yes, even a few of the best of her previously released songs.  In addition, Tori brought an intimate, engaging stage presence that shows just how comfortable she has become in her own skin.  It was a solo performance by a woman who clearly knows how to engage an audience without leaning on anyone else.  She was both inspired and inspiring!

The purpose of this concert was to give her Lubbock fans a unique opportunity to send Tori Vasquez on a Nationwide Tour of virtually every major city in the US!  And it all starts right here in Lubbock, back in Tori’s home town.

Tori has been given the opportunity to open for Blue October in a nationwide tour! East coast, West coast, you name the major city, and this tour will hit it – New York, Boston, Philly, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco Los Angeles – just to name a few!  From September 4th through late October (plus a final date of November 30th), Tori will be taking her music across the USA!

And it involves a big responsibility – as well as a big risk – for Tori, because she has sole responsibility for every aspect of her participation in this tour!  From putting together and paying her own touring band, to providing transportation, to hotels and meals, and everything else that goes in to a huge undertaking like this.  It all falls on Tori’s shoulders, including the financial responsibility.  This concert was Lubbock’s opportunity to help share that responsibility, and Lubbock stepped up to the plate, with donations above and beyond the cost of admission, including donations from some people who were not even able to attend!

This tour is in perfect timing with her new CD release, which will help her music find its way into the hearts and minds of literally thousands of new Tori Vasquez fans across the nation. But none of it will be possible without some kind of underwriting, and Tori needs our help to make it financially feasible.  It’s a small investment that each of us can make in someone we all believe in, which will pay huge dividends down the road. So many people brought more than the $20 admission, and 100% of all revenue goes directly to Tori in support of this tour.  Each of those who helped Tori through this concert have also helped the world discover her incredible talent that we all know and love so well.

Remember, this was more than just another house concert – it was Lubbock’s opportunity to say “We are behind you, Tori!  We love you, we support what you are doing, and we believe in you!”  And, believe it, Tori received that message, with gratitude and joy!

Tori’s new CD will be out soon.  Read more about her new CD and her new music in an interview with Tori below.

Tori Vasquez returns from EuropeWe were so excited to have Tori Vasquez perform a return engagement for our HubCityMusic.com house concert series!

This concert came right after Tori’s return from a European tour with Blue October.  Their 11-day tour took them through Germany and the United Kingdom, playing in venues ranging from large concert halls to the Hard Tori Vasquez - sights of EuropeRock Cafe.  Tori said the entire trip was so good it was hard to pick a favorite part, but she really enjoyed singing and performing for a different culture half a world away.  And no doubt her audiences enjoyed her just as much as she enjoyed them!  What a great opportunity, and certainly you will see more opportunities of this nature in Tori’s future.

And what an honor that with such exciting opportunities in her life, Tori is still excited about the house concerts she performs for us!  She has been busy writing new songs, and shared some of these new songs with us.  Some of these songs are from her continuing collaboration with Kenny Harris, and some are solo efforts by Tori.

In the space of less than a year since her last HubCityMusic.com house concert, Tori has matured and grown both musically and as a stage presence.  Her stories were as endearing as her songs, and her songs were transfixing!

July 15, 2011

Here’s a genuine TREAT for those of you who were not able to attend Tori’s July 15, 2011  HubCityMusic.com house concert.  This is a video of her consummate and moving cover of Eva Cassidy’s Autumn Leaves.  Her vocal on this track is emotion-evoking and technically flawless.  And the interplay between Micah’s bass and her guitar is beautiful!  To hear this, listen with good speakers if possible! (on a laptop, use headphones or earbuds.)

Tori Vasquez has also played at House of Blues in both Dallas and Houston

It’s one thing to come from a musical family, but Tori Vasquez seems to have channeled all of that multi-generational talent into one little body, and the result is astounding!  Seeing her for the first time is like watching an episode of America’s Got Talent/The Voice/American Idol/Name-Your-Favorite-Talent-Search-Show, and when you see this pretty, unassuming, shy woman walk up to the microphone, you are suddenly amazed at the mature, textured, bigger-than-life voice that comes out.  Even more impressive is the fact that this woman is singing her own original songs, and these songs are so good that they feel instantly familiar and relevant, reflecting a wisdom with words beyond her years, and tunes that quickly hook your ears.

Actually, many of Tori’s songs are co-written with dylanesque Kenny Harris, and this is a combination that really seems to work well, with Tori pulling Harris toward broader appeal, and Harris adding an edge to the collaboration.

Last year Tori released an EP, produced by Clif Magness, with five songs.  That EP earned Tori a shot at the national Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, in which she was named a national finalist as the Southwest Regional winner, and earning her a trip to New York for the finals.  See the video of her New York performance on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8hdGPQ_28k

Since last year’s EP release, Tori and Harris have been continuing to fruitfully collaborate.  The result is a new EP coming out this fall.  This new release (entitled “I Remember Well”) is being produced by Jon Taylor, and the new EP will reflect a maturing Tori Vasquez.  Tori speaks of becoming “more musical”, and says “I write more through my music than I do lyrics.”  Thus the value of a talented lyricist like Harris.  Six new original songs are planned for this new EP, and the production will be simpler than her first EP, to better showcase the fundamental qualities of her voice and songs.

Tori performed songs from both EPs at this HubCityMusic.com house concert on Friday July 15th.  Also performing with her was bassist extraordinaire, Micah Vasquez, and friend & collaborator Kenny Harris joined her in several songs, as well.

As with all our HubCityMusic.com house concerts, admission is $20, and 100% of all proceeds goes to our guest musicians.  Advance RSVP is requested and appreciated, but not required. Last minute guests welcome! BYOB. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served.
