Thursday October 17th

Click here to RSVP or for more information

Claire and Paul are always thrilled each time we have the opportunity to again be hosting our good friend and musical legend, John Batdorf at a HubCityMusic.com house concert, this one on Thursday October 17th.

John Batdorf is an American singer-songwriter, solo artist, and one half of Las Vegas Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers, folk-rock duo Batdorf and Rodney, and folk-rock band Silver. During the past year Silver’s 1970s hit “Wham Bam” has seen an unprecedented revival in popularity since its inclusion in the soundtrack of the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”, with over 6 million hits on YouTube! John is also a successful film and TV composer, session vocalist, and inspirational musician in the substance recovery community.

In 1967, as a gifted teenage singer-songwriter, John Batdorf, ventured to Los Angeles, crammed in a Lincoln Continental with six of his friends, to become immersed in the formative and iconic musical era symbolized by Laurel Canyon and names like Richie Furay, Stephen Stills, Chris Hillman, Lubbock’s own Al Perkins, David Crosby, Roger McGuinn, and so many more. These went on to form some of the most influential bands of all time, and John Batdorf was part of that transformation as a founding member of Batdorf and Rodney, followed by Silver. If you grew up in that era, you will recognize many of their songs.

Since that time, John Batdorf has remained a prolific songwriter, and is a far more accomplished musician now than even at the height of his success in the 1970s. This is definitely an opportunity to introduce your friends to a phenomenal musician, or if you haven’t attended one of his previous shows, don’t miss this opportunity to introduce yourself!

Please RSVP and plan to attend!

When: Thursday October 17th at 7:15pm
Tickets: $20 each. (100% of all money received will go to our guest musician.)

Wendy Colonna may have played more HubCityMusic.com house concerts than any other artist. There’s a reason for that – We absolutely LOVE her! And once again we were thrilled to welcome her back Friday August 2, 2019 at Paul and Claire’s house.

Wendy is one of the most versatile and prolific songwriters to ever grace our stage. And the diversity of her music means there is absolutely something for everyone.
Wendy is enjoying the success of a balanced family and music life, and her performances are better than ever! Wendy is garnering critical acclaim from multiple outlets including the New York Times (describing her music as “ethereal”), and she was selected as a 2017 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Finalist. The Austin American-Statesman long ago recognized Wendy as “Austin’s Best Singer/Songwriter”, and that word is now out around the nation.

Colin Gilmore & Nicolette Good
Friday November 16, 2018

Colin Gilmore and Nicolette Good began playing and singing as a duo in 2014 after hearing each other’s compelling songwriting.

Colin Gilmore, a Lubbock native and son of well-known Lubbock singer/songwriter/recording artist Jimmie Dale Gilmore, spent many nights as a child in nightclubs such as Stubbs, where he witnessed songwriters like Joe Ely, Terry Allen and his own father, Jimmie Dale Gilmore. He developed a taste for Buddy Holly, Townes Van Zandt and bands such as The Clash and The Pogues.

Gilmore has been writing, performing and touring for more than a decade. His latest release, The Wild and Hollow, recorded in Austin and Chicago, showcases rich arrangements and instrumentation while still leaning on his roots rock and singer/songwriter foundation.

Nicolette Good is a Texas singer-songwriter and 2012 winner of the Kerrville New Folk competition. In a voice that’s at once refined and raw, Nicolette sings with penetrating insight about hope, wrenching love, and the mysteries of everyday life.

Her clever and effortless storytelling shines in toe-tappers like “Aloha” and “All the Time in the World”.  Songs like “Hurricane Caroline” tell intimate stories of enigmatic, tragic characters. Nicolette released “Little Boat on a Wave” (2015) following a residential artist program called The Lighthouse Works in New York. Critics have called her “a songwriter to follow” and “a poet of the first order.”

Together, Colin and Nicolette bring an irresistibly compelling melding of voices that are each haunting and melodic in their own right, with the whole being somehow greater than the sum of the parts.

When: Friday November 16, 2018

Tickets: $20 each. (100% of all money received goes to our guest musicians.)

BYOB. Complimentary snacks and bottled water are provided.

Cary Banks CD release concert
October 19, 2018
with special guests
Steve “Gittar” Williams, Jerry Brownlow,
and Megan Poppe

Cary Banks and Steve “Gittar” Williams

Due to the unexpected passing of Claire’s aunt, Claire and Paul had to be out of town to attend the funeral on the date of this concert.

Through the kindness of Van and Leslie Shaw, we made arrangements to move the location to Uncle Bill’s Music Barn where our Harvest Moon concert was also held.

Legendary Maines Brothers Band member Cary Banks performed a special CD release concert on Friday October 19, 2018. This is Cary’s 4th CD as a solo artist, and he will have early release copies of this new CD, called simply “Piano”, for sale at this concert. Cary was accompanied throughout the concert by guitar virtuoso Steve “Gittar” Williams, who also performs on Cary’s new CD. Also joining them for selected songs were Maines Brothers Band member Jerry Brownlow, and violinist Megan Poppe.

Those who know Cary are aware that he is one of the most versatile musicians around, having excelling skills with multiple instruments and musical styles and genres. In addition, there is no one who has more fun performing than Cary Banks. He is a delightful entertainer, and is sure to captivate every audience.

“Piano” by Glen Garnett. This original 15″ x 15″ album cover art will be auctioned to the highest bidder at this concert.

The phenomenal cover art for Cary’s new CD is an original painting by the talented Glen Garnett, also titled “Piano”. The original piece was not only on display at this concert, it was auctioned to the highest bidder during the concert! The chance to own this original artwork is exciting to say the least! Glen has commissioned an extremely limited run of 10 high quality, signed and numbered prints (mounted on dryboard) of this piece, and these were also for sale at this concert. There will never be another print sold beyond these 10. See “Piano” and more of Glen Garnett’s work at his website: https://www.glenartstudio.com

All in all, this was an unforgettable evening!

When: Friday October 19, 2018 at Uncle Bill’s Music Barn.

9th Annual Harvest Moon Concert
Mike Pritchard & Mark Wallney
September 21, 2018

7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR EFFORTS to bring great music in a wonderful atmosphere to Lubbock!

Because of the cold, windy weather and threat of rain, our good friends Van and Leslie Shaw generously offered to let us move this 9th Annual Harvest Moon concert from our back yard to Uncle Bill’s Music Barn, located behind their house. It’s such a great venue for this type event, and as a result we were able to accommodate a significantly larger audience than if we had moved the concert from our backyard to the family room inside our home. Thanks Van and Leslie!

Our 9th Annual Harvest Moon Concert was held Friday September 21, 2018, and a wonderful time was had by all.

It’s hard to believe this was our 9th Annual Harvest Moon Concert! It marks an anniversary of sorts for Claire and Paul, as the first one was about the one-year mark from when we started dating. Who knew that all these years later, we would be married and still celebrating love and life with our friends every Harvest Moon?!

And, of course, it wouldn’t be the same without another outstanding performance by our dear friends Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, who got this whole thing started in the first place with their better-than-original performances of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, which they would always play with a dedication to Claire every time Claire and Paul went on a date anywhere Mike and Mark were playing. Their performance of this romantic and seasonally appropriate song sets the stage for a relaxing evening of undeniable musical and vocal talent.

So here we are at our 9th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon – the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert.

And it marks the beginning of the change of seasons, reminding us of the passing of time, and how important it is to share our time with those we love. There are a lot of special things about this 9th Annual Harvest Moon concert. Considering that our very first Harvest Moon concert was a surprise party for Claire, it’s nice how things have come full circle.

As with all of our previous Harvest Moon concerts, this concert played to a SOLD OUT audience.

Thanks to all who shared this special evening with us!

Christopher Williams
June 15, 2018

Claire and Paul were absolutely thrilled and honored to welcome Christopher Williams back to Lubbock for his first HubCityMusic.com house concert since 2014, June 15th, 2018.

Way back in 2011, the idea of a house concert series was just a gleam in Paul’s eye. We had our first, private, Harvest Moon concert in the fall of 2010, and Paul was thinking about hosting a public house concert series, but had not idea how to go about it.

Paul heard at the last minute that Christopher Williams was performing with Bebo Norman in Dallas, and, already being a fan of both, Paul jumped in the car and got there just as the concert started. Afterward Paul was getting Christopher to autograph a CD, and mentioned that we were interested in hosting a public house concert series. Christopher’s response was immediate, and Christopher Williams became our first official booking in this series of public house concerts we now call HubCityMusic.com House Concerts.

CW has been back occasionally over the years, and with that kind of history with him, we could not be happier that circumstances allow him to come our way again!

Touring nonstop nationwide at a pace of more than 110 shows a year, Christopher has built a faithful following of listeners around the country and is a true independent artist, having successfully published 11 CDs on his own label. He has toured all over the U.S., opening for and playing with noted performers such as Jars of Clay, Arlo Guthrie, Phil Keaggy, David Wilcox, Patty Larkin, Ellis Paul, and others.

Christopher is a songwriter, storyteller, and entertainer – offering songs that are honest and confessional, yet never overbearing; and performances that engage audiences with an appealing mix of intense passion and humor. With “lush guitar work, and sweet soaring vocals” (Boston Phoenix), CW is an accomplished guitarist. But he is also one of the few musicians who can fill a room with only his voice to the accompaniment of a masterfully energetic African djembe hand drum. It’s a sound that everyone should be privileged to experience. Simply stunning.

With his newly released CD, “Gather”, Christopher explores new musical and production horizons, while retaining the sensibilities that have endeared him to so many fans across the country. At once philosophical and poetic, these new songs also have a musicality that makes them immediately accessible and fresh at the same time.

His intimate live performances create a connection with the audience that is mesmerizing and entrancing. He is a performer that, regardless of the setting, creates an intimate feel – comfortable on stage in front of thousands, as well as in a small living room concert. There just aren’t many performers capable of this kind of connection, and if you’ve had the pleasure of attending one of his concerts, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

John Batdorf
March 7, 2018

Claire and I are always thrilled each time we have the opportunity to again be hosting our good friend and musical legend, John Batdorf at a HubCityMusic.com house concert, this one on Wednesday March 7, 2018. One of the best things about hosting these concerts is our opportunity to become good friends with some really great people, including the performers as well as those who attend. And for attendees, John Batdorf has become one of the most popular of all the performers we have ever hosted. Everyone loves his music and his voice!

We are all a “little” older now, and somehow John’s music is even better than ever!  John is working on another new CD, so we got to hear some of his latest, unreleased songs.  It was truly a magical evening as a full house appreciated the energy and musical perfection that he brought to the room.  There were a lot of personal stories about his journey through the record business of the late 1960s and 1970s, as well as his path since that time.  His soaring voice soars better than ever, and his songwriting ability has only gotten better.  Well crafted lyrics wrapped in masterful guitar strokes.

John Batdorf is an American singer-songwriter, solo artist, and one half of Las Vegas Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers, folk-rock duo Batdorf and Rodney, and folk-rock band Silver. During the past year Silver’s 1970s hit “Wham Bam” has seen an unprecedented revival in popularity since its inclusion in the soundtrack of the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”, with this song garnering over 6 million hits on YouTube! Since that time, John Batdorf has remained a prolific songwriter, and is a far more accomplished musician now than even at the height of his success in the 1970s. This was definitely an opportunity to introduce friends to a phenomenal musician, as we had many first-time house concert attendees.

Thanks to everyone who attended!  We can’t do these house concerts without people in the seats.

The general public is always invited.
