7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR EFFORTS to bring great music in a wonderful atmosphere to Lubbock!

Because of the cold, windy weather and threat of rain, our good friends Van and Leslie Shaw generously offered to let us move this 9th Annual Harvest Moon concert from our back yard to Uncle Bill’s Music Barn, located behind their house. It’s such a great venue for this type event, and as a result we were able to accommodate a significantly larger audience than if we had moved the concert from our backyard to the family room inside our home. Thanks Van and Leslie!

Our 9th Annual Harvest Moon Concert was held Friday September 21, 2018, and a wonderful time was had by all.

It’s hard to believe this was our 9th Annual Harvest Moon Concert! It marks an anniversary of sorts for Claire and Paul, as the first one was about the one-year mark from when we started dating. Who knew that all these years later, we would be married and still celebrating love and life with our friends every Harvest Moon?!

And, of course, it wouldn’t be the same without another outstanding performance by our dear friends Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, who got this whole thing started in the first place with their better-than-original performances of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, which they would always play with a dedication to Claire every time Claire and Paul went on a date anywhere Mike and Mark were playing. Their performance of this romantic and seasonally appropriate song sets the stage for a relaxing evening of undeniable musical and vocal talent.

So here we are at our 9th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon – the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert.

And it marks the beginning of the change of seasons, reminding us of the passing of time, and how important it is to share our time with those we love. There are a lot of special things about this 9th Annual Harvest Moon concert. Considering that our very first Harvest Moon concert was a surprise party for Claire, it’s nice how things have come full circle.

As with all of our previous Harvest Moon concerts, this concert played to a SOLD OUT audience.

Thanks to all who shared this special evening with us!

7th Annual Harvest Moon Concert
Friday Sept 16th

It’s that time of year again!7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert

7th Annual Harvest Moon House Concert
Our 7th Annual Harvest Moon house concert, featuring Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, will be Friday September 16th at 7:15pm.

The inspiration for this extra-special house concert is taken from Neil Young’s song “Harvest Moon”, which Mike and Mark perform better than ‘ol Neil himself. No disrespect to Neil Young, but let’s face it, Mike Pritchard’s voice is so much smoother and stronger than Neil’s warbly falsetto, and Mark Wallney’s guitar mastery is similarly superior. Their performance of this romantic and seasonally appropriate song sets the stage for a relaxing evening of undeniable musical and vocal talent.

This concert is our 7th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon, the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. And it marks the beginning of the change of seasons, reminding us of the passing of time, and how important it is to share our time with those we love.

There are a lot of special things about this 7th Annual Harvest Moon concert. For one, this will be our FIRST concert in our new home, and it’s no longer Paul Johnson’s house, it’s now Paul and Claire’s house. Considering that our very first Harvest Moon concert was a surprise party for Claire, it’s nice how things have come full circle.

Another special thing about this 7th Annual Harvest Moon concert is that for the first time since our first concert, this year’s concert will be on the ACTUAL DATE of the OFFICIAL FULL HARVEST MOON! (it’s normally been one to four days before or after the actual full Harvest Moon.)

If that’s not enough, weather permitting, Paul and Claire’s house will allow us to hold this year’s concert outside under that beautiful full Harvest Moon. (we will take the first RSVPs assuming that the weather won’t cooperate, and then we will take overflow “rain check” RSVPs that will only be valid if we are able to hold the concert outdoors.)

There may be a few PROVISIONAL seats available, IF IT DOESN’T RAIN and we can hold the concert outside – CLICK THIS LINK for more concert details and to RSVP. (RSVP and advance payment are required, as this concert always sells out, so if seats are available, grab them quickly before they are gone!)  Provisional seats will be refunded in the event weather forces the concert inside.

We are looking forward to a particularly special Harvest Moon this year! See you then!

6th Annual Harvest Moon concert
Friday September 25th 2015

3rd Annual Harvest Moon House ConcertThe RSVP/Invitations to our 6th Annual Harvest Moon concert will go out about mid-day on Monday August 31st.

It’s finally here!

Our 6th Annual Harvest Moon house concert, featuring Mike Pritchard and Mark Wallney, will be Friday September 25th at 7:15pm.

This concert is our 6th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon, the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert. The ONLY way to receive an invitation is to be on our email list.  If you would like to receive an invitation, please sign up using the email form at the right side of this page.

This concert always sells out in less than 24 hours, so be watching for the invitation, and please respond quickly!

We appreciate the fact that so many people want to come to this concert, and to be fair to everyone, we are unable to take RSVPs in advance of that date.

We are looking forward to another wonderful Harvest Moon!  See you then!

5th Annual Harvest Moon concert!
Friday 9/5/2014 with The Hat Trick
Mike Pritchard, Mark Wallney,
and Mike Boyd

Our 5th annual Harvest Moon party!

Sold Out!

Just like last year, this year’s event sold out in about 24 hours.  And the concert was well worth all the anticipation.  Mike, Mark, & Mike never sounded better!  Their vocals were spot-on, and the musicianship was unsurpassed.  And they performed several new songs they have never done in public before.  We can’t wait for next year!  In the meantime, check back here in the next few weeks for a few videos from this 5th annual Harvest Moon concert.

3rd Annual Harvest Moon House Concert

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 5 years since we first hosted The Hat Trick in our living room!  This concert is our 5th annual celebration of life, love, and friends, at the time of each fall’s Harvest moon, the full moon closest to the Autumnal equinox. Often, the harvest moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other full moons, so it’s a great time to enjoy a romantic concert. And it marks the beginning of the change of seasons, reminding us of the passing of time, and how important it is to share our time with those we love.

The inspiration for this extra-special house concert is taken from Neil Young’s song “Harvest Moon”, which The Hat Trick performs better than ‘ol Neil himself.

TheHatTrick2No disrespect to Neil Young, but let’s face it, Mike Pritchard’s voice is so much smoother and stronger than Neil’s warbly falsetto, and Mark Wallney’s guitar mastery is similarly superior. Their performance of this romantic and seasonally appropriate song sets the stage for a relaxing evening of undeniable musical and vocal talent by Mark Wallney, Mike Pritchard and Mike Boyd.

The Hat Trick needs no introduction to Lubbock music fans, as these guys are literally musical legends in Lubbock. All three have musical chops and talent that anyone can appreciate, a point well-proven when none other than the legendary Graham Nash (of Crosby, Stills, and Nash and The Hollies) joined The Hat Trick on stage to perform with them! As Mike Pritchard would later say, “It was surreal performing “Bus Stop” with they guy who wrote it!” Mark Wallney added “Wow, we are still excited about the show and honestly fulfilled one of our childhood dreams, playing with one of our greatest music heroes. Most of you know that CSN is one of our biggest influences that even got the Hat Trick started in the first place.”

2nd annual West Texas Folk Festival
Thursday 10/7 – Saturday 10/9

2013WestTexasFolkFestiva-600x540

Tickets available at Ralph’s Records or at the door.

Van and Leslie Shaw are happy to again host the 2nd Annual West Texas Folk Festival, from November 7th through 9th, at their beautiful Uncle Bill’s Music Barn venue in far south Lubbock.  Located behind their residence at 150th and Louisville (one block west of Indiana), Uncle Bill’s Music Barn is in a peaceful and spacious country environment, with a comfortable, inviting interior that is laid out perfectly for musical performances such as this folk festival.

Hoping to eventually reach the status of more prominent folk festivals (such as the Kerrville Folk Festival), Van Shaw recognizes that every giant tree was once a sapling.  “We want to grow this event and make it self-sustaining” said Shaw, noting that last year’s debut event was satisfyingly successful for a first-year event.

One of the keys to that success is the expertise brought to the event by each night’s musical hosts, and Shaw has filled those slots with some well-known West Texas musicians who can not only draw an audience, but have the connections to bring in musicians who can keep that audience enthralled and entertained.  This year’s nightly musical hosts are Mark Wallney (Thursday), Curtis Peoples (Friday), and Jenni Dale Lord (Saturday).  And each of them has brought talented lineups to their respective nights’ performances.   “I just want everyone to have a good time and enjoy great music, in a comfortable environment,” said Shaw.   “I feel the best way to do that is to not micro-manage, and let it take on a life of its own.”
